HELP FIND MISSING CHILDREN

Redplum and The National Center for Missing & Exploited children  need your help! Look closely at the photos of missing children printed on the back of the Redplum Weekly Mail Package, in your weekend newspaper inserts and at www.Replum.com. If you have any information about any of these children call 1-800-THE-LOST or visit www.missingkids.com

HAWK MOUNTAIN

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary recently announced its spring schedule, coinciding with longer days and warmer temperatures. Educators will present a series of programs held most Saturdays and Sundays through June.

Most weekend programs are free of charge and take place near the Visitor Center. Programs that take place at one of several scenic overlooks include a modest trail fee to enjoy the Sanctuary trails, scenic overlooks and protected lands, but are well worth the price to explore this environmental treasure.

Hawk Mountain is the world’s first refuge for birds of prey, and over the past 74 years, has gained international acclaim as a center for conservation, education and research about birds of prey. Education programs focus on raptors (predatory birds such as hawks, eagles and falcons), birdwatching, or Hawk Mountain history.

Trail fees and membership dues support Hawk Mountain conservation programs. Admission is always free for members and children ages 5 and under.

For more information on visiting or for a complete list of other nature events, walks and talks, visit www.hawkmountain.org or call 610-756-6961.

FAFSA

If your New Year resolution is for a brighter future, now is the time to apply for financial assistance. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, is your first step in receiving free money for college.

All students are encouraged to apply for the FAFSA as soon as possible to guarantee application deadlines for need-based student aid – such as the Pennsylvania State Grant, the Federal Pell Grant, low-cost student loans and various school-based awards.

For more information and for help with completing the FAFSA, visit www.pheaa.org/fafsa. Don’t delay, apply now!

UNDERAGE DRINKING

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is informing all of Pennsylvania about the dangers of underage drinking and the accessibility of alcohol to minors.
Research shows that kids are trying alcohol at younger and younger ages. The average age of trial is 12 years. Studies show that a majority of kids get their alcohol from home; it stems from parents, older siblings or friends who are providing the alcohol, or kids who are sneaking alcohol out of the fridge.

The goal of this campaign is to encourage parents, mentors and community members to talk to kids about the dangers of underage drinking, before it's too late.

You’d never give your kids permission to drink alcohol, but they may not have to ask. Across Pennsylvania, kids are drinking at younger ages. Be certain your children know that drinking is harmful to their health – and their future. It’s never too soon to talk. Log on to
dontletminorsdrink.com for information and tips on how to make a compelling argument with kids about the dangers of underage drinking.
